London Stock Exchange Group plc, also known as LSEG, is a global provider of financial markets data and infrastructure headquartered in London, England. The LSEG Data & Analytics Division is the rebranded name for the company Refinitiv, which it acquired in 2021. Refinitiv itself was the new name for the Financial & Risk division of Thomson Reuters after it sold that part of the business in 2018.
With over 40,000 customers and 400,000 end users across approximately 190 markets, LSEG Data & Analytics is one of the world's largest providers of financial markets data and infrastructure.

LSEG Workspace is a next-generation financial data and analytics platform developed by the London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG), following its acquisition of Refinitiv (formerly part of Thomson Reuters). Positioned as a flagship terminal, it is the direct evolution and eventual replacement of the legacy Thomson Reuters Eikon platform.
LSEG Workspace is a modern, cloud-powered desktop and web platform designed for financial professionals, delivering real-time market data, deep analytics, news, research, and powerful tools for workflow integration.
For a better understanding of the LSEG Workspace product, you can view the promotional video.
You can view glimpses of the final product on the official product page: LSEG Workspace.
I can share the following screenshots as they are already in the public domain:
Thomson Reuters → Refinitiv → LSEG
Eikon (legacy) → Workspace (next-gen platform)
Multi-year engagement across two periods of employment
Supported by a Principal User Researcher (Prean P.), 2x Senior Visual Designers (John W. and Chris B.), and a dozen other UX Designers, Interaction Designers, a UX Engineer and Content Writer, a Business Analyst and Product Owner throughout various stages of work across all the projects stated in the documentation featured in this case study.
Thomson Reuters' Eikon was widely recognised as the primary competitor to the Bloomberg Terminal, offering institutional users powerful tools for financial data, news, analytics, and trading. Designed to provide a flexible and cost-effective alternative, Eikon stood out for its open architecture, real-time market data, and integration capabilities — making it a key player in the financial information services market.
During my time at Thomson Reuters (Financial & Risk Division), I led the UX design, redesign, and usability reviews of over 50 applications within the Eikon financial data and analytics platform. One of the most common user complaints was the platform's poor navigation and discoverability, both within and across applications.
On rejoining the company (now Refinitiv), I was brought in to help lay the foundations for a new, ground-up flagship platform—a modern successor to Eikon, capable of addressing legacy issues and supporting the evolving needs of financial professionals.
This new platform, initially codenamed Eikon 5, would eventually become known as LSEG Workspace following Refinitiv's acquisition by the London Stock Exchange Group. My role as Principal Designer focused on shaping the platform and app frameworks to support:
& Visual Consistency
My first major assignment was to lead the design system initiative, originally called 'Halo'. I:
based on Real-World Use
I conducted a comprehensive (and widely praised) analysis of user screen resolutions and device setups, particularly during the shift to remote work due to the COVID-19 lockdowns. This informed the definition of responsive breakpoints, ensuring the platform was optimised across:
& Workflow Challenges
To address long-standing navigation issues, I:
I pioneered the concept of a personalised homepage/start page — a feature not available in Eikon at the time — based on my deep understanding of diverse user roles within banking and finance. I proposed and presented the idea to stakeholders, where it was met with strong approval and enthusiasm. This feature dynamically displays content based on a user's:
Users were presented with interconnected cards and panels, offering relevant entry points into detailed applications and data views. This concept was enthusiastically received by product stakeholders and validated during user testing.
One of my proposed workflows for Research Analysts received unanimous praise from both stakeholders and users. During user testing, feedback included:
“This is spot on. This is how it should have been built in the first place.”
My early contributions helped shape Workspace into a modular, scalable, and user-centred financial platform, replacing the ageing Eikon system and aligning with LSEG's strategic goals.
The section below is based on an official handover document I authored upon my departure, detailing the key projects I led across multiple teams. It highlights my responsibility for defining framework behaviours and design patterns at both the platform and application level for LSEG's new flagship product, Workspace — the successor to the legacy Thomson Reuters Eikon platform.
The content provides insight into the strategic and foundational contributions I made during my time at LSEG / Refinitiv.
I played a pivotal role in shaping the UX strategy for LSEG's flagship Workspace platform, which would eventually replace the legacy flagship Thomson Reuters Eikon financial platform. My leadership encompassed:

"So far, I am pleased with the performance (of Workspace). The screens are easier to navigate between and adding favourites is much easier than it was with Eikon. Great upgrade!"
"The (Workspace) user experience is way easier, and the new format makes navigation more straightforward compared to Eikon."
"Sounds like we're onto a winner. It has also helped that we have had a very smooth transition across from Eikon for our team. Thanks for all your efforts in making the process so easy."
Note: It's standard practice not to name client companies, both to respect confidentiality agreements and to avoid exposing those relationships to competitive pressure.
Note: While not the focus of this case study, it's worth mentioning that I played a significant role in shaping many applications within the LSEG Workspace ecosystem — across its evolution from Thomson Reuters to Refinitiv and now under the LSEG brand. I led end-to-end design for several flagship apps, was frequently consulted by other designers for direction or review, and conducted final UX reviews before apps were released — ensuring usability standards, consistency, and quality across the platform.

Yooch, you were called out by David R in today's Spotlight as being one of the team who helped deliver the OTC App. David R said: "a massive thanks.....I cannot say 'Thank you' enough. We (the OTC product team) feel extremely lucky ...you and the team...saved the day." This app provides a workflow that Bloomberg doesn't have. Early user feedback is promising, and it looks like it will contribute to retaining existing customers and gaining new ones. Congratulations Yooch. It's great when we get recognition and feedback from our product partners, of the work that you were involved with."
